The MILL – FORMER TEXTILE MILL, MANCHESTER
About
A former textile mill with over a century of industrial history, The Mill has been transformed into a multi-level production and events venue on the edge of Manchester city centre.
The building retains much of its original character, with exposed brickwork, steel beams, high ceilings, distressed textures and warehouse architecture sitting alongside a series of contemporary refurbished spaces. The result is a versatile location with a strong industrial character and a wide range of visual settings within one building.
The venue extends across multiple floors and includes the Main Room, Basement, Red Room, Warehouse Room, Loft and an open air Courtyard, each with its own atmosphere. The Main Room provides a clean, flexible backdrop with a more contemporary finish, while the Basement retains exposed brickwork and a darker, more atmospheric character. The Warehouse Room is particularly raw, with original features, exposed brick and graffiti-covered walls, while the Loft has the feel of a New York-style warehouse apartment with exposed steel, pipework, timber floors and natural light.
The Red Room combines high ceilings and a minimalist concrete aesthetic with a large bar and built-in seating, while the Courtyard provides an open-air industrial setting surrounded by the original building fabric. Together, the spaces offer a broad range of looks for productions that need variety without changing location.
The Mill is suited to film and television, commercials, music videos, fashion and editorial shoots, as well as product launches, fashion shows and private events. The spaces can accommodate everything from smaller shoots and interviews to more substantial productions, with changing and make-up facilities, client and green room spaces, bars, professional staging and lighting, industry-standard sound systems and three-phase power already in place.
The building has an established history of working with creative and commercial clients and is also home to a community of creative studios, reinforcing its character as a working part of Manchester's creative scene. The combination of its original industrial fabric, varied interiors and established production infrastructure makes it a particularly flexible location for both stills and moving image.
