About

Originally built in the 1930s as the Savoy Cinema, this striking Art Deco building has long held a central place in Hackney’s cultural life. After decades of changing use and a period of closure, the venue was carefully restored and reopened in 2018, bringing new energy to one of London’s most architecturally distinctive former cinemas.

Today, the venue offers a series of contrasting yet complementary spaces under one roof. The ground floor hall is a dark, atmospheric events space with a capacity of up to 1,200, while upstairs the restored theatre features tiered seating, a dramatic stage and beautifully retained Art Deco detailing. Additional spaces include a contemporary bar and kitchen, along with further areas suitable for gatherings, receptions and ancillary use.

Each space can be hired individually, or the venue can be taken in its entirety for larger productions or events. Equipped with professional sound, lighting and staging, and supported by an experienced in house operations team, the venue is well suited to live performance, large scale events and high production value hires. Despite its scale and central location, it retains the character and spirit of a grassroots cultural institution, rooted in its local community while welcoming a broad range of creative uses.
